Mission and Services

Legal Services Mission header image

New Jersey’s statewide Legal Services system provides free legal assistance to low-income people in civil matters in all 21 counties. The most common legal areas include housing (eviction and foreclosure), family (domestic violence, child welfare, divorce, child support), government assistance (public benefits, unemployment insurance), and consumer-related issues.

LSNJ also engages in policy advocacy, maintains a statewide LSNJLAWSM Hotline, which provides legal advice on a range of civil legal topics, produces a wealth of legal rights resources in print and video formats, and houses statewide representation projects in select legal areas.
