Legal Assistance for Victims of Domestic Violence

Asistencia legal en español para víctimas de violencia doméstica

The WIN Project provides community education and outreach to victims of domestic violence in Monmouth and Ocean Counties. The project has resulted in the formation of a comprehensive, collaborative working partnership between OMLS and local organizations that have a proven record of providing client-centered services to victims of domestic violence. The WIN project receives many referrals of domestic violence victims who are seeking legal assistance. These referrals are passed along to OMLS staff attorneys who provide the appropriate legal advice and representation necessary to remove civil legal obstacles resulting in a more stable home environment for the victim and her children.

Domestic violence is against the law. The New Jersey Prevention of Domestic Violence Act (NJSA 2C:25-17 et seq.) covers any victim who is over eighteen (18), an emancipated minor, or who has a child in common with, or is pregnant by, an abuser over age eighteen (18). If your spouse, boyfriend/girlfriend, former partner, or someone with whom you reside or have resided, hits you, threatens you, or commits another crime against you, you may be eligible for a Restraining Order. If you are in a crisis or need immediate assistance, call the police, your local battered women's shelter or 911. Then, call the WIN Project.

The WIN Project's quarterly advisory board meetings features a guest speaker and provides a forum for professional skill building as it relates to the identified topic of concern. WIN Staff is available to present trainings to the public, or another group or agency, in English and Spanish. Literature on domestic violence, and information about our services, is also available in English or Spanish. There is no charge for any of our services or literature.
