Special ProjectsHealth Care Access Project: Advice and representation to low-income people in matters involving access to health care. The priorities of HCAP are Medicaid eligibility, denials and reductions in medical care, NJ FamilyCare, Medicare, PAAD program and Charity care. HCAP may also be able to provide assistance in disputes that involve commercial insurance coverage, COBRA issues, access to medical records, privacy issues, limited English proficiency, lead poisoning, and access to services for the uninsured, including mental health and substance abuse treatment and other affirmative advocacy to expand health care access rights. Home Preservation Project: Advice and representation of low-income homeowners facing foreclosure, particularly in disputes arising from subprime mortgages and foreclosure rescue scams. Housing for People Affected by HIV/AIDS: A collaborative project with NORWESCAP that provides comprehensive and coordinated services to assist people affected by HIVS/AIDS secure and maintain affordable housing. LSNWJ provides legal assistance in matters affecting the client’s housing, while NORWESCAP provides case management, emergency assistance and temporary rental assistance. Language Services Initiative: LSNWJ delivers quality legal services to clients in their preferred language. LSNWJ provides language services as needed to ensure that limited English proficient (LEP) clients have meaningful access to LSNWJ services. Language services include professional on-staff English-Spanish interpreter-translator; assignment of bilingual advocates to LEP clients, and contracted professional in-person and telephone-based interpreters and translators. In addition, LSNWJ offers training to agencies other entities on legal requirements to provide language access to services. LIBRE (Legal Intervention Brings Recovery and Empowerment) Project: A collaborative project with the domestic abuse service providers in Hunterdon, Morris, Somerset, Sussex and Warren Counties, LIBRE provides comprehensive and coordinated services to assist victims and survivors of domestic abuse. LSNWJ provides legal assistance in matters affecting the client’s essential needs, while the domestic abuse service agencies provide case management, counseling, safe shelter, and support groups. Senior Legal Assistance: In cooperation with the County Offices on Aging, LSNWJ provides legal advice, representation and preparation of legal documents for vulnerable seniors age 60 or older. There are no income eligibility requirements for the Senior Legal Assistance Projects, however, the projects target the frail and vulnerable, minorities and impoverished.
