Special Projects

Health Care Access Project: Established to provide information, advice, referral, advocacy and legal representation to lower income people who need legal help to get necessary quality health care.

MENTOR (Meeting Education Needs Through Representation):   LSNWJ provides legal services to K-12 students from low-income families in the areas of special education, school registration and residency disputes, disciplinary actions and issues affecting students with disabilities.

Senior Legal Assistance: In cooperation with the County Offices on Aging, LSNWJ provides legal advice, representation and preparation of legal documents for people age 60 or older. There are no financial eligibility requirements for the Senior Legal Assistance Projects, however, the projects target the frail and vulnerable, minorities and impoverished.

Tenancy Project: LSNWJ attorneys appear in tenancy court each week. The judge announces from the bench that LSNWJ is available to provide advice and representation to financially eligible tenants who face eviction. Although LSNWJ is able to provide representation to tenants who appear in court without representation, LSNWJ encourages tenants who are served with a complaint for eviction to contact the office before the court date.

Workers' Rights Project: Handles Unemployment Insurance, Wage and Hour Law issues, Workplace Bullying, Family & Medical Leave issues, Temporary Disability Insurance, Wrongful Termination , Barriers to Employment, Disability Accommodations, Youth Employment issues and other Employment matters.
