Legal Services in New Jersey embraces the vision of full access to essential civil legal aid for all economically disadvantaged people who cannot secure a lawyer on their own. This belief in the importance of legal assistance to indigent people stems from an underlying concern with fairness, and a conviction that important legal needs of individuals should be addressed.
LSNJ offices are located in Edison, NJ, close to all major highways and NJ Transit
ATTORNEY
We welcome applications from attorneys who would like to volunteer their time in our Edison office. Our current, greatest need is in the area of mortgage foreclosure and general consumer issues. Many of our existing consumer cases are related to damages sustained by survivors of Hurricane Sandy.
We have other pressing needs in the area of Family and Landlord- Tenant Law. Services include providing information and advice through our legal Hotline to full litigation including trial and Appellate Court.

Prior experience is preferred but not required. LSNJ provides a wide variety of trainings and has been granted approved service provider status by the New Jersey Supreme Court Board on Continuing Legal Education.

HOTLINE TELEPHONE INTAKE AND PARALEGAL
Many Legal Services of New Jersey clients are facing eviction, threats of domestic violence, or a variety of consumer injustices. Clients can access our statewide Legal Hotline, which provides legal information, advice, and referral. This service is provided at no charge but applicants must be financially eligible to qualify. All callers are screened for income eligibility prior to receiving services.
Hotline Intake Paralegals gather identification, income, and other information about the caller’s legal problems and make referrals for legal and other services. No legal experience is required. Hours are available in our Edison office, Monday through Friday, between 8 AM and 6 PM. Prior experience is not required. LSNJ will provide training. Languages other than English are particularly helpful.

GENERAL CLERICAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT
LSNJ seeks assistance from volunteers in providing a variety of administrative and general clerical support to our attorneys and other professionals. We will work with you in developing assignments that match your qualifications and desires with our needs. Typical assignments include brief typing, telephone reception, file organization and other document management. Prior experience is preferred but not required. LSNJ will provide training. Knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office helpful.

TAX PREPARATION
We seek volunteer attorneys and other accounting or tax professionals (CPA’s, enrolled IRS agents etc.) for the Taxpayer Legal Assistance Project. You will provide assistance to low-income New Jersey residents who have tax debt or other matters with the IRS.
Prior experience with tax issues and controversies is preferred but not required. LSNJ will provide training. Bi-lingual English-Spanish is helpful.
